The Engage San Diego Action Fund is excited to announce our Phase 1 Endorsements for the 2020 Electoral Cycle!
Candidates for consideration in Phase 1 of our 4 Phase endorsement process must be current incumbents running for the same office.
The Engage San Diego Action Fund is an independent 501 c(4) organization, which as a part of its mission supports candidates who work for systemic change, strive to improve civic participation, and fight for social and economic justice, in historically and systemically excluded communities of San Diego County.
The Engage San Diego Action Fund is proud to endorse the following incumbent San Diego leaders for re-election in the 2020 Election:
CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATURE
- Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins in SD-39
- Assemblymember Dr. Shirley Weber in AD-79
- Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher in AD-80
The leadership of Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins, Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher, and Assemblymember Dr. Shirley Weber, at the California State Legislature, makes us proud to be San Diegans.
These three powerful women leaders have led the way for all California progressives. Their tenacious advocacy for economic equity, immigrant rights, criminal justice reform, and social justice has made California a leader in progressive policy change nationwide.
Consistently leading on progressive priority issues, like housing, LGBT rights, immigration, criminal justice reform, and worker’s rights, and pushing forward a change agenda, they represent the best values of San Diego residents and have been powerful voices for San Diego’s historically and systemically excluded communities.
Throughout their service, these leaders have proven themselves to be real champions for change, and we look forward to many more years of their leadership.
UNITED STATES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
- U.S. Congressman Mike Levin in CD-49
- U.S. Congressman Juan Vargas in CD-51
- U.S. Congressman Scott Peters in CD-52
All three of these incumbent U.S. Congressmen from San Diego County have been fighting the Trump agenda in different ways and lifting up the voices of the residents of our border region, who have been hurt by the bigotry and lies coming out of the administration.
We are proud of their strong positions on immigration, civil rights, and the environment, which reflect the many voices of San Diego residents.
We will continue to need their voices in Washington no matter how the Presidential Election plays out.
We wish all the candidates luck in their races and the ESDAF will be working hard throughout San Diego County to lift up issues we care about and the candidates who will do something about them!
